About OnSet Report

OnSet Report is an independent trade publication for the people who actually make film and television — actors auditioning from a bedroom self-tape setup, cinematographers scouting available light, first-time directors trying to hold a schedule together, and screenwriters shipping a second draft nobody asked for.

What we cover

Our reporting is organized around the daily realities of the job rather than celebrity news. On the performance side, we publish practical guides and reporting on auditions and casting, self-taping, acting craft, monologues, headshots and reels, and agents and the business of a career.

On the production side, we cover cinematography, directing and on-set process, screenwriting, pre-production, funding and grants, and film festivals. Our Spotlight section profiles working artists at the point in their career where the decisions are still hard.

How we work

Every article is written or edited by a human with production experience. We favour specifics over inspiration: what a casting director actually sees, what a lens actually costs to rent, what a grant application actually requires. When we recommend gear or services in our Gear & Reviews sections, we say plainly why, and we correct the record when we get something wrong.

Tips, corrections, pitches and press releases are all welcome. Reach the newsroom through our contact page. Corrections are appended to the article they affect rather than quietly edited away.
